Founded in 2023, GIMM is the result of the merge of two leading research institutes: Instituto de Medicina Molecular Jo\u00e3o Lobo Antunes (iMM) and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ci\u00eancia (IGC) and dedicates to unraveling the fundamental mysteries of life and aims to be at the forefront of transdisciplinary research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>What GIMM seeks<\/strong>: At this moment, GIMM is looking for a Lab Technician to join the Laboratory coordinated by Claus Azzalin, under the research project \u201cTelomeres and Telomere Transcription in Cancer and Aging\u201d funded by Private Funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Preparation of total RNA and genomic DNA from human cells;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of telomere length using Oxford Nanopore;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of telomere transcription using Oxford Nanopore or RT-qPCR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Profile of Candidate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Mandatory)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>MSc degree in biological sciences or similar;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience in molecular biology;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Techniques including RNA and genomic DNA preparation, cDNA synthesis and RT-qPCR;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good communication and planning skills;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fluency in written and spoken English;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear interest in telomere biology and genome stability-<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Desirable)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with Oxford Nanopore sequencing;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience in cell biology;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lab management skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Phase<\/strong>: Curriculum Analysis (50%) and Motivation Letter (30%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Curriculum<\/strong> will be qualitatively assessed in terms of its content and relevance to the tasks to be performed, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>research experience and relevant knowledge in the area of the proposed work plan, as described in the candidate profile (20%);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>published scientific work, with particular emphasis on areas related to the proposed work plan (20%);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>international scientific experience (10%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Motivation Letter<\/strong> will be evaluated based on the candidate\u2019s motivation and interest in the activities to be carried out and in the field of research (25%), as well as written communication skills in the English language (5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates who obtain a minimum final score of 75% in the first phase will be admitted to the second phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Second Phase<\/strong>: Interview (20%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview will assess the candidate\u2019s scientific background, motivation, suitability for the proposed activities, and communication skills.<br>Only candidates meeting the minimum score threshold in the first phase will be invited to the interview stage<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only candidates who achieve a final overall score of at least 90% will be offered the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications should be submitted to People &amp; Culture Unit, through the email positions@gimm.pt, with the reference \u201cGIMM\/CT\/24-2026\u201d in the subject.
