We have revealed that a kinase unique to Plasmodium \u2013 KIN \u2013 acts as a critical regulator of the parasite energy-sensing pathway. Yet, we are only now beginning to understand exactly how malaria parasites sense and adapt to nutrient availability. The proposal aims to provide new insights in a complex mechanism that is essential for the survival of <i>Plasmodium<\/i> and also provide new opportunities to design intervention strategies against malaria. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: National-Book;color: initial\">The successful<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: National-Book;color: initial\">candidate will participate in customized hypothesis-driven experimental<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: National-Book;color: initial\">approaches to identify the transcription factors involved in nutrient sensing,<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: National-Book;color: initial\">the pathways involved and how they modulate parasite virulence and disease<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: National-Book;color: initial\">outcome in tasks such as the following:<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">&#8211;<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-size: 7pt;line-height: normal\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Cell culture of <i>Plasmodium<\/i> parasites; <\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">&#8211;<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-size: 7pt;line-height: normal\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Cytoadhesion assay<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">&#8211;<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-size: 7pt;line-height: normal\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Bioimaging and Flow cytometry analyses;<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">&#8211;<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-size: 7pt;line-height: normal\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Molecular techniques such as DNA\/RNA extraction and PCR<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">&#8211;<span style=\"font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-size: 7pt;line-height: normal\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Data analyses and communication of results.<\/span><\/p><br><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><em><b><span style=\"font-family:National-Book;font-style:normal\">Legislation and Applicable Regulation: <\/span><\/b><\/em><span style=\"font-family: National-Book\">Estatutodo Bolseiro de Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o approved by Law nr 40\/2004, from 18<sup>th<\/sup>August in its current form (altered by Decree Law nr 123\/2019, 28<sup>th<\/sup>August) and current Regulation of Fellowships of Funda\u00e7\u00e3o para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> <\/span><span lang=\"PT\" style=\"font-family: National-Book\">(approved by Regulation nr 950\/2019, from 16<sup>th<\/sup> December).<\/span><\/p><br><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;text-align:justify\"><b><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Predicted start date, duration and renewal conditions: <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">The fellowship contract is predicted to start in<b> <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">July 2026<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">, for a period of <\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">6<\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\"> months on an exclusive basis. \u00a0<\/span><\/p><br><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;text-align:justify\"><b><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">Work place and Scientific orientation: <\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">The research activities will be developed at <\/span><span style=\"font-family:National-Book\">the Biology &amp; The amount will be paid by wire transfer at the end of each month.
