Founded in 2024, GIMM is the result of the merge of two leading research institutes: Instituto de Medicina Molecular Jo\u00e3o Lobo Antunes (iMM) and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ci\u00eancia (IGC) and dedicates to unravelling the fundamental mysteries of life and aims to be at the forefront of transdisciplinary research.<br><br><strong>Who We\u2019re Looking For<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GIMM is looking for an <strong>experienced<\/strong> and motivated <strong>Laboratory Manager<\/strong> to join the <strong>Cell Biology of Host-Pathogen Interaction Laboratory led by Moritz Treeck<\/strong>. The lab studies how parasites alter host cell biology using state-of-the art techniques (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.treecklab.org\/\">www.treecklab.org<\/a>). The team consists of eight to nine postdoctoral researchers, three PhD students, and a laboratory manager\/research assistant (for an overview of the lab and projects see www.treecklab.org).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate and supervise the lab\u2019s day-to-day operations, including research projects and experiments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stock management and provision of common reagents (buffers, cells and solutions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide support for experiments as needed, assisting all lab members;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organize and maintain laboratory databases, including inventories, protocols, and records;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manage laboratory budgets, resource allocation, procurement of supplies, and maintenance of equipment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Train lab members, including in safety, experimental techniques, and operational procedures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out experiments independently to support the lab\u2019s efforts in studying the cell biology of infection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandatory Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s Degree in STEM areas;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leadership and organizational skills to effectively manage operations and personnel;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in laboratory management software, data analysis tools, and database organization;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in spoken and written English (the lab\u2019s working language);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge of funding applications, and budget management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expertise in laboratory safety protocols, experimental techniques, and compliance standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Desirable Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Lab working experience in a larger group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD in immunology, cell biology, genetics or biochemistry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous experience with mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology and\/or imaging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proven experience in project management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with mouse work, or willingness to perform mouse work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficiency in Portuguese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forward thinking, can-do, proactive attitude;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International scientific experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application must be sent by email to the People &amp; Culture Department at <strong>positions@gimm.pt<\/strong>.
