O envelhecimento, o stress e as doen\u00e7as neurodegenerativas s\u00e3o algumas das condi\u00e7\u00f5es que contribuem para a perda acelerada da fun\u00e7\u00e3o cognitiva. O trabalho do nosso grupo centra-se na compreens\u00e3o dos mecanismos que induzem este “envelhecimento precoce”, que tornam o hipocampo – a \u00e1rea do c\u00e9rebro relacionada com a aprendizagem e a mem\u00f3ria – particularmente suscet\u00edvel.<\/p>\n\n
O nosso objetivo \u00e9 caraterizar os mecanismos moleculares associados \u00e0 perda de fun\u00e7\u00e3o hipocampal e o seu resultado no desempenho comportamental e na fun\u00e7\u00e3o sin\u00e1ptica, utilizando modelos de roedores. Asseguramos a tradu\u00e7\u00e3o para o c\u00e9rebro humano, testando estas impress\u00f5es moleculares em tecido cerebral humano saud\u00e1vel e doente. Atualmente, estamos concentrados em explorar o papel dos receptores A2A de adenosina como potenciais moduladores cognitivos, tanto in vitro<\/em> como in
