O laborat\u00f3rio recorre a tecido t\u00edmico removido durante cirurgia card\u00edaca de rotina, para investigar usando uma abordagem multi-\u00f3mica as trajet\u00f3rias de diferencia\u00e7\u00e3o das Tregs no timo humano e a sua heterogeneidade funcional.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400\">Biologia das c\u00e9lulas T CD4 na\u00efve humanas:<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ap\u00f3s sa\u00edda do timo, as c\u00e9lulas T mant\u00eam propriedades como c\u00e9lulas na\u00efves que asseguram, ao longo da vida, a capacidade de montar respostas contra novos microorganismos, vacinas e tumores . O grupo investiga mecanismos de resili\u00eancia das c\u00e9lulas naives na aus\u00eancia de renova\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00edmica, atrav\u00e9s do estudo de adultos submetidos a timectomia total na inf\u00e2ncia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400\">Imunopatog\u00e9nese da infe\u00e7\u00e3o HIV\/SIDA (HIV-1 e HIV-2):<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">O HIV-2 estabelece um equil\u00edbrio \u00fanico com o hospedeiro, definido por um decl\u00ednio muito lento de c\u00e9lulas T CD4 circulantes e controlo da replica\u00e7\u00e3o viral apesar do estabecimento de reservat\u00f3rios persistentes. O laborat\u00f3rio pretende indenticar novas estrat\u00e9gias para cura funcional da infe\u00e7\u00e3o pelo HIV-1 atrav\u00e9s do estudo das respostas protetoras induzidas pelo HIV-2 na mucosa intestinal e nos g\u00e2nglios linf\u00e1ticos. Estes estudos s\u00e3o particularmente relevantes dado que Portugal \u00e9 o pa\u00eds n\u00e3o africano com maior preval\u00eancia de HIV-2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400\">Imunodefici\u00eancia por erros inatos da imunidade:<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">O laborat\u00f3rio estuda mecanismo de desenvolvimento de inflama\u00e7\u00e3o cr\u00f3nica, autoimunidade e cancro (especificamente cancro g\u00e1strico) em modelos clinicos associados a muta\u00e7\u00f5es do sistema imunit\u00e1rio.
