O envelhecimento \u00e9 caracterizado por um decl\u00ednio progressivo da homeostase celular e constitui o fator de risco mais significativo para muitas doen\u00e7as humanas prevalecentes. No centro da homeostase celular est\u00e1 a capacidade da c\u00e9lula para controlar a express\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica, o que implica a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de ARNs e prote\u00ednas necess\u00e1rias para a fun\u00e7\u00e3o celular adequada. Este processo \u00e9 excecionalmente complexo e propenso a falhas relacionadas com a idade.<\/p>\n\n
Os passos cruciais na regula\u00e7\u00e3o da express\u00e3o g\u00e9nica s\u00e3o desencadeados ao n\u00edvel do ARN por prote\u00ednas de liga\u00e7\u00e3o ao ARN (RBPs) e ARNs n\u00e3o codificantes. H\u00e1 cada vez mais provas que sugerem que muitos destes processos ficam comprometidos nos nossos tecidos \u00e0 medida que envelhecemos. No entanto, a origem, a extens\u00e3o e as implica\u00e7\u00f5es funcionais destas altera\u00e7\u00f5es continuam a ser pouco conhecidas.
