Quando os tel\u00f3meros se tornam disfuncionais, desencadeiam cascatas de rea\u00e7\u00f5es celulares frequentemente encontradas em c\u00e9lulas cancerosas e envelhecidas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apesar da sua natureza heterocromat\u00ednica, os tel\u00f3meros s\u00e3o transcritos em RNA contendo repeti\u00e7\u00f5es telom\u00e9ricas (TERRA). O TERRA \u00e9 um componente central da nucleoprote\u00edna telom\u00e9rica, e a sua express\u00e3o \u00e9 regulada epigeneticamente e responde \u00e0 disfun\u00e7\u00e3o telom\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O nosso laborat\u00f3rio investiga de que forma o TERRA contribui para a manuten\u00e7\u00e3o da estrutura e fun\u00e7\u00e3o adequadas dos tel\u00f3meros, e como influencia o desenvolvimento do cancro e o envelhecimento. Estes estudos s\u00e3o realizados utilizando culturas celulares prim\u00e1rias e imortalizadas de origem humana e de roedores.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>TERRA e o Alongamento Alternativo dos Tel\u00f3meros (ALT)<\/h2>\n<p>Exploramos de que forma o TERRA e a transcri\u00e7\u00e3o telom\u00e9rica contribuem para o alongamento dos tel\u00f3meros em c\u00e9lulas cancerosas ALT imortais mas negativas para a telomerase.
