The Fundação GIMM – Gulbenkian Institute of Melecular Medicine is seeking a Sterilization and Media Specialist Technician to join its Safety & Infrastructure team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, sterilize, and make available solutions, culture media, plates, and other laboratory materials in accordance with established procedures;
  • Collect, wash, process, sterilize, and distribute laboratory equipment and materials;
  • Operate washing machines, autoclaves, and other Central Washing Facility equipment, ensuring compliance with quality standards and biosafety requirements;
  • Organize, store, and distribute cleaned and sterilized materials, ensuring appropriate stock and consumables management;
  • Use computer systems for record keeping, request management, and email communication;
  • Support the daily activities of the Central Washing Facility and ensure operational continuity of the area in the absence of the Team Leader.

Candidate Profile:

  • Completed secondary education in Science and Technology, or vocational training in Laboratory Analysis, Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, or related fields;
  • Strong sense of responsibility, accuracy, organization, and attention to detail;
  • Proactive attitude, autonomy, and initiative;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team;
  • Good computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and ability to quickly adapt to other software tools;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese;
  • Good command of written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biology, or a related scientific field;
  • Experience in the preparation of solutions, reagents, and culture media, ensuring compliance with sterility and quality requirements;
  • Experience in the safe operation of autoclaves and other laboratory equipment;
  • Knowledge of safety, hygiene, biosafety standards, and Good Laboratory Practices;
  • Previous professional experience in similar functions, preferably in a laboratory environment or culture media production setting.

Employment Conditions

Fixed-term employment contract for an initial period of one year, subject to the applicable probation period, with the possibility of renewal.
