Scientific Acceleration Program for PALOPs launched at the University of Cape Verde

Science Education

The Scientific Acceleration Program for the PALOP is designed to equip young graduates with the interdisciplinary skills needed to pursue advanced studies (Master’s or PhD) or to enter research institutions or industry in the fields of health and life sciences.

The program will support 20 recent university graduates from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, and Mozambique through an intensive 18-month scientific training experience.

Participants will engage in a Biomedical Research Course, focusing on interdisciplinary skills in Health and Life Sciences. The program combines 17 weeks of intensive training in Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics with advanced laboratory techniques and soft skills development. A personalized mentorship program will further enhance participants’ professional capabilities.

The unique training approach includes 11 months of study at the University of Cabo Verde, followed by 6-month practical internships at a scientific or technological institution, in Europe or Africa. By collaborating with renowned scientific networks, the program aims to provide participants with transformative learning experiences.

Launched on February 5 at the University of Cabo Verde’s Mediateca, this initiative is a joint initiative of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and GIMM, in partnership with the Lisbon School of Medicine and the University of Cape Verde.
