Our second GIMM Biology and Biomedicine PhD Program call (2027 cohort) is officially open (more informations here)!
As we continue to grow our research community, we are looking for 12 researchers ready to push the frontiers of modern biology and solve biological puzzles alongside us.
Our recruitment focus this year highlights the framework and the support systems we have established to ensure our students’ success:
- Research: We are offering 12 PhD studentships, each coupled with a predefined research topic hosted by our Labs. Candidates are encouraged to explore these specific projects on our webpage and apply for the ones that best match their scientific ambitions.
- 12-Week accelerator: Our students begin with an intensive “deep dive” into the technical and professional pillars of modern biosciences. This foundational phase includes modules in Programming, Hypothesis-Driven Research, Immunology, Cell Biology, and Neurosciences, among others, alongside essential skills like Grant Writing and Research Ethics.
- Support: Every student is backed by the Education and Training Unit and a dedicated Thesis Committee. These structures are designed to ensure scientific progress, professional development, and well-being throughout the four years. Additionally, program´s integration within the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre provides students with access to the resources of the Lisbon School of Medicine (FMUL).
- Career: Through mentorship and transferable skills training, we empower our students to succeed in academia, biotech, or any field they choose to lead.
- Funding: To allow students to focus fully on their research, they are provided with a tax-free monthly stipend (including the GIMM top-up). All registration and tuition fees at FMUL are fully covered.
- Integration: We support the logistics of moving to Portugal, providing relocation funds and visa support, alongside Portuguese language classes to help our international community feel at home.
