The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) is seeking a Technician to join the Metabolomics platform, which supports metabolism research and biomarker discovery through advanced mass spectrometry technologies. The platform performs targeted and untargeted metabolomics, stable isotope tracing, and lipidomics analyses, providing researchers with comprehensive support from experimental design and sample preparation to data analysis and interpretation. Its mission is to generate high-quality metabolic insights that advance biomedical research.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will join the Metabolomics Platform at GIMM and contribute to a wide range of collaborative research projects across diverse biological areas. The role involves working closely with researchers to support experimental design, sample preparation, LC-MS and GC-MS analyses, data processing, and interpretation of metabolomics data.
The position includes operating and maintaining state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation (Thermo Orbitrap Exploris 240, Orbitrap Stellar MS and GC-MS), troubleshooting analytical workflows, and contributing to the development and optimization of new methods alongside the facility director and other team members.
This is a dynamic position within a multidisciplinary core facility. We are looking for someone who is scientifically curious, highly organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and comfortable interacting with users from different research backgrounds. The successful candidate should be capable of working independently while thriving in a collaborative, service-oriented environment. Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to continuously learn new techniques and workflows are essential.
Previous experience in metabolomics or mass spectrometry is highly desirable but not essential for candidates with a strong scientific background and demonstrated ability to learn new experimental techniques.
