Curricular Internships & Visiting PhD Students
Before You Apply
Check with your home institution which documents you need to complete your internship.
Common examples include:
- Learning Agreement
- Acceptance Declaration
- Home university specific forms
Please provide all required documents to GIMM at the beginning of your internship submission.
How to Apply
Phase 1 – Candidate Contact & Internship Planning
1.1 Choose Research Groups/Platforms
- Visit the GIMM Laboratories/Platforms page
- Select 1–3 groups that match your interests
1.2 Prepare Your Documents
- Motivation letter
- Updated CV
1.3 Contact Group Leaders/Platforms Heads
- Reach out via the GIMM website
1.4 Send Application
- After receiving a positive reply, send your CV + motivation letter to the Group Leader/Head of Platform.
Availability depends on the lab’s capacity and ongoing projects.
1.5 Laboratory/Platform Review
- The laboratory/platform reviews your application
- You discuss internship details with the Group Leader/Head of Platform/Supervisor
- The Group Leader/Head of Platform/Supervisor sends you the link to the online application form and guidelines
Phase 2 – Curricular Internship Application
2.1 Submit Application forms
Candidates’ complete their internship application forms and send the required documents/information to internships@gimm.pt
- Learning agreement or any other institution documents required by your home institution (if applicable)
- Home Institutional contact to address learning agreement validation and signature (if applicable)
- Proof of insurance (if applicable)
2.2 Approvals
- Group Leader/Head of Platform approval
- Internship Supervisor submission
Internship Agreement Timeline
FAST TRACK – ~1 Month
If your institution already has an agreement with GIMM and provides insurance.
STANDARD – 2–3 Months
If an agreement exists but you still need an individual student agreement.
EXTENDED – Up to 6 Months
If no agreement exists and a new institutional agreement is required.
