The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) is seeking a Technician to join
Histopathology platform in both site s (Oeiras and Lisboa) , responsible for planning and executing
histological workflows, including tissue processing, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and sample
preparation for paraffin embedding, cryo -sectioning, and vibratome sectioning. It includes applied
histology in human, organoid, an d animal models, as well as sample collection for DNA/RNA extraction
and spatial transcriptomics. The role also requires providing user training in histological and imaging
techniques and ensuring high-quality analysis and interpretation of experimental results.
The main responsabilities include:
a) Planning, implementing, and controlling multiple stages of analysis and treatment of biological
tissues for histology.
b) Applied histology in human, organoid, and animal models (e.g., Danio rerio, Drosophila
melanogaster, Mus musculus).
c) Planning, implementing, and controlling complementary techniques such as histochemistry and
immunohistochemistry.
d) Sample preparation for paraffin embedding, cryo -microtomy, vibratome sectioning, and related
methods.
e) Providing user training in paraffin techniques, cryo -microtomy, vibratome sectioning,
immunohistochemistry, and complementary techniques.
f) Collecting samples for DNA/RNA extraction using both kit -based methods and spatial
transcriptomics.
Profile of Candidate :
a) Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Pathological Anatomy, Cytology and Thanatology, or
Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or other similar training considered suitable for the duties of
the role.
b) Strong interest in advancing skills in histology and molecular biology techniques.
c) Good oral and written English skills, with excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
d) Motivated and eager to learn in a dynamic research environment.
e) Team work and communication skills.
Working Conditions:
Unfiex -Term Employement Contra ct – the contract has an estimated duration of 12 months and
may be extend to a maximum of 4 years.
