The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) is seeking a Laboratory Manager Assistant Technician to join the Cell Biology of Host – Pathogen Interaction, laboratory focuses on understanding how parasites like Plasmodium falciparum (which causes malaria) and Toxoplasma gondii interact with and manipulate their host cells.

The candidate selected for this role will support our research activities by overseeing laboratory administrative tasks in a dynamic team of 15 members – including postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, a manager and technical support staff – focused on two closely related intracellular parasites of medical relevance.

 The Laboratory Manager Assistant Technician will play a key role in supporting our research activities by ensuring the smooth day-a-day operation of the laboratory. The main responsabilities include: 

  1. Managing laboratory stock efficiently, ensuring that supplies are available when needed;
  2. Handling orders of reagents and consumables in coordination with the Laboratory Manager;
  3. Maintaining up-to-date inventories of all materials and reagentes;
  4. Supporting scientists by providing an organised, clean, and functional workspace;
  5. Assisting in the planning and coordination of laboratory activities and routines.

Profile of Candidate

  1. A degree (bachelor) in biological sciences or experience working in a scientific environment is preferred, but not a prerequisite;
  2. Attention to detail and a high level of organisation are essential;
  3. High motivation to work in an organised manner and to help maintain organisation across the laboratory is required;
  4. Basic computer skills (Excel, Word) are necessary;
  5. Experience with stock management and ordering is desirable, but not essential. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Initial contract of 1 year, subject to the normal probation period;
  • Possibility of extension based on funding availability;
  • Candidates with a scientific background may also have the opportunity to integrate into an ongoing research project.
