What iMM seeks: At this moment, iMM is looking for a Lab Technician to join the Organismal Metabolic Physiology Laboratory coordinated by Zita Carvalho-Santos, under the research project PTDC/BIA-CEL/3594/2020 – “The role of healthy cells on the elimination of premalignant cells” funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT, I.P.) through Portuguese National Funds (PIDDAC), to execute the following activities under the supervision of Dr. Catarina Brás Pereira:

  • Maintenance and generation of Drosophila stocks;
  • Genotyping;
  • Dissection of Drosophila tissues;
  • Immunostaining and confocal microscopy;
  • Image analysis and data quantification.

Profile of Candidate

  • MSc in Biological Sciences;
  • Experience with image analysis (e.g. ImageJ, Imaris);
  • Focused, well-organized and very reliable working style;
  • Motivation and interest for science;
  • Good capacity and value for teamwork, and communication skills;
  • Ability to work and learn independently, critical thinking capacity to independently develop research project;
  • Fluency in English.

Preferential Factors

  • Research experience, with hands-on technical experience in Drosophila husbandry and genetics, cell biology and molecular techniques and data analysis;
  • Knowledge in cancer cell biology and cell competition.

What iMM offers: iMM will offer outstanding working conditions in this area in Portugal, including a full-time and unfixed-term contract, starting predictably in 1st of October 2024 for an estimated period of 5 (five) months. To the selected candidate will be paid a gross monthly salary of 1.500€, in accordance with the funding budget and iMM Career By-Law, as well as Holidays and Christmas allowances subject to the current mandatory taxes accordingly to Portuguese Labor Law. A meal allowance will also be paid in the amount of 6€ per each working day.

Please note that the job opportunity announced here is under the entity of the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) and will result in a contractual relationship with the new entity, GIMM – Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine.

Evaluation Criteria: Applications will be evaluated by Catarina Brás Pereira, Zita Carvalho Santos and Patrícia Francisco, in accordance with the following method:

  • 1st Phase: Curricular evaluation (50%) and Motivation Letter (25%);
  • 2nd Phase: Interview (25%). Only the 3 candidates with the highest score in 1st Phase with a minimum of 65%, will be selected for Interview.

Results: Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be communicated to all admitted candidates through email.

Preliminary Hearing and Final Decision Deadline: After notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.

The present call is exclusively aimed at filling the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the homologation of the final candidates’ ranking list and expires with the respective occupation of the position on offer.Lisbon, 8th of August 2024
