What iMM seeks: At this moment, iMM is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Telomeres, long noncoding RNAs and genome stability Laboratory coordinated by Claus M. Azzalin, under the research project “Regulatory RNA–protein interactions at telomeres in healthy cells and during malignant transformation” (HR21-00077-TELOTRANS),funded by “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, to execute the following activities under the supervision of Claus M. Azzalin:

  • Studying the impact of telomere transcription on the composition of the telomeric nucleoprotein in human cultured cells;
  • Generating telomeric mutant proteins that are insensitive to the regulation mediated by telomere transcription;
  • Characterizing the generated mutant proteins both in vitro and in cells;
  • Characterizing the effects exerted by the generated mutant proteins on telomere stability.

Profile of Candidate

– PhD or MD/PhD in cell biology, biochemistry or related fields.

– Experience in biochemistry with recombinant proteins, cell biology, molecular biology and microscopy;

– Experience and deep interest in telomere biology or genome stability maintenance;

– At least one first author paper published in a peer-reviewed journal;

– Informatics skills will be considered a plus;

– Proficient in English, spoken and written;

– Good managing skills;

– Forward thinking, can-do, pro-active attitude;

– The international experience of the candidates, although not a determining criterion for selection, will be valued.

What iMM offers: iMM will offer outstanding working conditions in this area in Portugal, including a full-time contract, starting predictably in October 2024, and the possibility to work in the interface of research and research support facilities.

Working Conditions: Unfixedterm employment contract for a period of 12 (twelve) months; -Gross monthly remuneration of 2.294,95€ in accordance with the funding budget and iMM Career By-Law, as well as Holidays and Christmas allowances subject to the current mandatory taxes accordingly to Portuguese Labor Law. A meal allowance will also be paid in the amount of 6€ per each working day.

Please note that the job opportunity announced here is under the entity of the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) and will result in a contractual relationship with the new entity, GIMM – Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine.

Evaluation Criteria: Applications will be evaluated by Claus M. Azzalin, Patricia Lona Abreu and Sergio Almeida (all PhDs), in accordance with the following method:

  • 1st Phase: Curricular evaluation (30%) and Motivation Letter (30%).
  • 2nd Phase: Interview (40%).  Only candidates who score at least 50% in phase 1 will be selected for interview.

The position will only be offered to the candidate with the highest score (Phase 1+2) with a minimum of 90%.

Results: Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be communicated to all admitted candidates through email.

Preliminary Hearing and Final Decision Deadline: After notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.

The present call is exclusively aimed at filling the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the homologation of the final candidates’ ranking list and expires with the respective occupation of the position on offer.
