The GIMM – Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine is a pioneering Portuguese private research foundation with an ambitious vision for fundamental scientific exploration and its profound impact on global health and well-being. Founded in 2023, GIMM is the result of the merge of two leading research institutes: Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) and dedicates to unraveling the fundamental mysteries of life and aims to be at the forefront of transdisciplinary research. 

What GIMM seeks: GIMM is looking for a Project Manager to join our Project Management Unit.

As the key connector between various departments and disciplines, project management plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution and success of our initiatives. By strategically aligning resources, timelines, and objectives, the Project Management department supports a collaborative environment where researchers can confidently pursue their scientific goals, institutional interests are protected, and trust with funding entities is built and maintained.

Work Plan activities

  1. Overseeing projects from start to finish. ensure they achieve their goals and objectives within the defined scope, timeline, budget, and quality standards
  2. Support the research team through the planning, execution, and reporting phases while guaranteeing full compliance with funding agencies’ regulations and deadlines
  3. Maintain operational excellence and financial sustainability/control by continuously improving processes and practices, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, and upholding high standards of performance, transparency and compliance

Profile of Candidate

  1. Technical Area (desirable): Monitor the financial execution of projects; ensure that project deadlines are met; prepare and submit accurate financial reports; prepare for and monitor audits; provide administrative support in interactions with funding agencies.
  2. Computer Science (desirable): Data analysis and visualization (e.g., Excel, Power BI); collaboration tools; document management; ERP Systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics NAV).
  3. Languages (indispensable): Portuguese; English.
  4. Desirable certification in project management methodologies.
  5. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting clearly with team members, stakeholders, and funding agencies, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed.
  6. Strong problem-solving abilities are critical for addressing challenges and finding practical solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
  7. Adaptability is necessary for responding to changes and unexpected issues efficiently.
  8. Time management skills are vital for prioritizing tasks and managing multiple aspects of projects simultaneously.
  9. Customer orientation to ensure that the needs and expectations of stakeholders are met.
  10. The ability to work autonomously with a strong sense of responsibility ensures that you take initiative, make informed decisions, and manage projects successfully, consistently meeting or exceeding expectations even in the face of challenges

What GIMM offers: GIMM offers outstanding working conditions including a full time and Unfixed-term employment contract predicted to start in May 2025 for a predicted duration of 12 (twelve) months and maximum duration of 48 (forty-eight) months. Gross monthly salary of 1.600,00€, as well as Holidays and Christmas allowances subject to the current mandatory taxes accordingly to Portuguese Labor Law. A meal allowance will also be paid in the amount of 7,80€ per each working day and health insurance.

Evaluation Criteria: Applications will be evaluated by Jorge Silva (President of the Jury), Madalena Reis and Vanessa Miranda, in accordance with the following method:

  • First phase: Curriculum Analysis (30%) and Motivation Letter (30%).
  • 2nd Phase: Interview (40%). Only the candidates who score at least 50% in 1st Phase, will be selected for the Interview.

In the event of a tie, the decision will be the responsibility of the chairman of the jury.

Results: Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be communicated to all admitted candidates through email.

Preliminary Hearing and Final Decision Deadline: After notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.

The present call is exclusively aimed at filling the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the homologation of the final candidates’ ranking list and expires with the respective occupation of the position on offer.
