Driven by a profound sense of solidarity and the belief that anyone can leave a lasting mark on the world, Ana Lázaro dedicated part of her inheritance to science, making a donation to the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
Born in 1933, Ana was the daughter of the Portuguese painter Bonifácio Lázaro Lozano. Although born in Portugal, she also held Spanish nationality and spent her early years in Lisbon before moving to Madrid, where she pursued a career in dance. She began as a ballerina and later became a choreographer and dance teacher, leading the first Chair of Classical Dance at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático y Danza. Ana played a pivotal role in promoting classical dance, with ballet classes featured on Spanish television and even a documentary about dance history. Her school nurtured notable talents like Nazaret Panadero and Virginia Valero, director of the Conservatorio Superior de Danza de Madrid.
Ana Lázaro passed away in 2021 in Madrid at the age of 87.
Her legacy formed the foundation of a laboratory dedicated to advanced breast cancer research. This laboratory, now part of GIMM CARE, is called the Advanced Breast Cancer Translational Laboratory.
This story serves as an inspiring example of how any individual can contribute to this project and make a meaningful impact on breast cancer research.
