GIMM Fest 2026: Science for Everyone

Events

The third and final day of GIMM Fest 2026 is designed to open science up to everyone – we look forward to welcoming you to Pavilhão de Portugal on 19 September

The day kicks off with an Opening Session featuring GIMM CEO Maria Mota and the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, setting the stage for a rich programme of talks, conversations, and hands-on experiences exploring the world of microbes.

Highlights from the auditorium programme include a live recording of the “Consulta Aberta” podcast on microbes and child health, a conversation between Chef Alexandre Silva and GIMM researcher Isabel Gordo on microbes and food, and a special session featuring Nobel Prize laureate Charles Rice alongside patient advocate Ricardo Fernandes on the fight against Hepatitis C.

Beyond the auditorium, visitors can enjoy a full day of interactive experiences running from 10:30 to 19:30, including:

  • Creating a personalised microbe pin
  • Controlling a simulated epidemic
  • Observing tardigrades and plankton under the microscope
  • Simulating a clinical trial
  • Dancing like a microbe at the Microrave booth
  • Exploring the Fermentation Market, where microbes meet flavour

The Public Day is free and open to all – whether you’re a scientist, a curious mind, or a family looking for a fun and educational day out.
