On April 3, GIMM hosted the event ‘Funding the Future of Biomedical Research’ in Brussels, with the aim of introducing the new Foundation to stakeholders from European institutions and fostering an in-depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities in funding biomedical research.
The event brought together key representatives from leading organisations such as the European Research Council (ERC) and the European Commission, as well as researchers, policymakers, and partner institutions. At a time when science faces increasing social and financial demands, this discussion was crucial in highlighting the importance of ensuring a sustainable funding ecosystem capable of supporting long-term excellence in research.
Topics explored included the balance between competitive and core funding, the role of fundamental science in biomedical innovation, and the need to safeguard the autonomy of scientific research within an increasingly complex regulatory environment. The event also offered an opportunity for GIMM to position itself as a new European player in transdisciplinary research, with a strong commitment to international collaboration.
GIMM’s active participation in initiatives like this strengthens both its visibility in the European landscape and its commitment to open, collaborative, and impact-driven science.
This event marked an important step in GIMM’s international engagement strategy – and it is only the beginning of a path to be pursued with ambition, conviction, and a spirit of collaboration.
