The Microbioma Comunidade Portugal was officially launched on the 10th July in the Auditorium of the Oeiras Municipal Library. The event included a round table discussion on the importance of the human gut microbiome for our health, with our researchers Isabel Gordo, Karina Xavier and Ana Margarida Almeida, as well as Luís Teixeira (Católica Research Centre) and Sarela Santamarina (ITQB Nova).
The “Microbioma Comunidade Portugal” project aims to leverage on the help of citizens to characterize the microorganisms that live in our intestines (microbiomes) and their genetic diversity over time. The microbiomes are influenced by eating habits, lifestyles, and antibiotic use, among other factors.
