Out of the box (and out of GIMM): the visit to the paper factory

Yesterday, a group of GIMMers had the opportunity to visit the paper factory of The Navigator Company, a GIMM partner through its brand Pioneer, that supports Breast Cancer Research performed at GIMM. This visit provided a privileged insight into one of the most sophisticated industrial processes in the paper sector.

The visit was divided into two parts. Initially, the company’s history was presented, along with key business insights and details about the paper production process. From eucalyptus nurseries to the shipment of paper pallets to customers, each stage was explained in detail, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation.

In the second part, the GIMMers explored the factory facilities up close. First, they saw an impressively large machine, equivalent in size to four airplanes, that receives paper pulp and transforms it into a massive paper reel, which is later processed by specialized equipment to be cut into smaller formats, ready for various applications. Then, they visited the quality control laboratories, where the highest standards for the final products are ensured.

Additionally, the visitors observed driverless vehicles transporting the reels to highly automated assembly lines, where the paper is cut, grouped into reams, packaged, and stored in boxes and pallets, ready for storage and later distribution.

This visit reinforced the connection between industry and scientific research, emphasizing the importance of innovation and technology in optimizing production processes. The GIMM Foundation thanks Pioneer for the warm welcome and the opportunity to closely explore this industrial reality.
