Science and Space Symposium 2026: Registration is now open

Events

Registration is now open for the first edition of the Science and Space Symposium, taking place on 21 and 22 October 2026, at the Grande Auditório João Lobo Antunes, Edifício Egas Moniz, in Lisbon.

Organised by GIMM – Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine and GIMM CARE, in collaboration with the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa, the European Space Agency and the Portuguese Space Agency, the symposium will bring together researchers, clinicians and representatives from the space sector to discuss emerging scientific and translational research opportunities in the context of space exploration.

Across two days, the programme will explore topics including ageing, the microbiome, radiation and thrombosis, and will feature scientific sessions, keynote lectures, poster presentations and contributions from national and international experts.

The symposium will also include a public round table aimed at raising awareness of the importance of space research, its connection to human health and the scientific challenges associated with future space exploration.

We invite the scientific community to join us, contribute to the discussion and discover how research conducted on Earth can help address some of the most important questions about human life in space.

Researchers are also invited to submit posters presenting original work at the intersection of the life sciences and space, along the symposium’s themes. Abstracts are now open to submission, and the two best contributions will be selected to pitch to the full audience during the Symposium. Submissions close on 21 September and the winners will be announced on 30 September .

Registration is mandatory and available in three categories: standard entry at €50, student entry at €25, and free registration for those presenting a poster, on submission of an abstract. Each gives full access to both days.

We look forward to seeing you there!
